What a client check shows you

One report, built from the same public records you would open in a dozen tabs. One score, with the reason behind every flag.

Know who you are working for

Keep an eye on clients during the project

Monitoring alerts you when a client's registry status, domain or reports change.

How a client check works

Four steps, about a minute, no phone calls and no awkward questions to the client.

  1. 1. Enter the client's domain

Enter the company website, the state if you know it and the project value. A contact person is checked only in their role at that company.

  2. 2. We read public records

State business registries, domain registration records, DNS and website signals, public listings and reviews, court and news mentions, and government sanctions lists.

  3. 3. You get a scored report

A risk score from 0 to 100 with a band of Low, Watch or High. Every point links to a written reason and its source.

  4. 4. Monitoring keeps it current

Add the client to monitoring and get an alert by email or Slack when something material changes.

Non-payment reports built on evidence, not gossip

Members report a business client that did not pay. Other members see it before they sign. The rules keep it factual and fair.

  1. 1

Every report needs a signed contract or accepted proposal, the unpaid invoice and proof of delivery.

  2. 2

Facts only: amount band, dates and status. No opinions and no private individuals.

  3. 3

Our moderators review each report before any other member sees it.

  4. 4

The reported business is notified and its reply is shown next to the report.

  5. 5

A disputed report is hidden during review, and a paid invoice is marked Resolved.

  6. 6

Reports are visible only to logged-in paying members and are never public.

One unpaid project costs more than ten years of Team

One unpaid $8,000 invoice costs more than ten years of the Team plan at $64 a month billed yearly. ClientVetter makes vetting a standard step of intake, not a favor someone does when they have time.

  • A documented check for every new client, saved with the date and sources.
  • Shared reports and PDF export so sales, delivery and finance see the same facts.
  • Roles and an audit log on Agency, SAML SSO and SCIM on Enterprise.
  • Suggested deposit and billing terms by risk band, so the decision is consistent.

Questions before you check your first client

Read all questions

Is it legal to check a client this way?

Yes. ClientVetter reads public business records, public websites and listings, public court and news mentions and government sanctions lists, plus reports members submit with evidence. You are researching a business you may sign a contract with. That is ordinary due diligence. This is general information, not legal advice.

Is a ClientVetter report an FCRA consumer report?

No. ClientVetter is not a consumer reporting agency and its reports are not consumer reports. They cover businesses, and people only in their role at a business. You may not use them for any decision about an individual's credit, insurance, employment or housing. Read the details on fcra compliant background check.

Where does the data come from?

Only from public sources: state business registries, domain registration and DNS records, public websites and business listings, public court and news records and government sanctions lists such as the OFAC SDN list. Member reports come with documents. We never use breached data, people search files or anything from illegal sources.

Can a company dispute a report about it?

Yes. The reported business is notified, can reply next to the report and can dispute it. A disputed report is hidden while we review the evidence, unsupported reports are removed and paid invoices are marked Resolved. See dispute a non-payment report.

Do you check private individuals?

No. A contact person is checked only in their business capacity for the company you name: their role, the company's own pages, public professional profiles and sanctions lists. No home addresses, no criminal or personal history, no family and no private life.

What if the client is a brand new LLC?

Then the report says so. A new entity, a fresh domain or a thin footprint is shown as a signal with a plain explanation. The suggested terms help you protect the first invoice with a deposit or milestones. Learn to read registry entries on llc lookup.

Will the client know I checked them?

No. Checks are private to your account. Only a non-payment report notifies the reported business, so it can reply.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel in your account settings and your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for. Payments already made are final.

What happens to my checks when I delete a report?

Plan limits count usage, so a deleted report still counts as a check used this period. Your allowance resets at the start of each billing period.
